Don't Hold Your Breath: Implementing Effective Ventilation Strategies for Healthy Indoor Spaces
Description
Ventilation stands as the cornerstone of indoor air quality improvement. Unlike outdoor air—where the only real solution is to eliminate pollution sources—indoor environments provide a unique opportunity to control and enhance air quality through targeted ventilation strategies. Given that Europeans spend an average of 90% of their time indoors, and that vulnerable populations such as the elderly and children are often exposed to pollutant levels two to five times higher than those found outdoors, optimising ventilation is not just beneficial, it is essential. Proper ventilation can also reduce the risk of airborne disease transmission by up to 50%, underscoring its vital role in public health, particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Against this backdrop, the LEARN and EDIAQI projects are proud to present the latest instalment in the EDIAQI webinar series. This session will delve into key issues related to ventilation:
- The risks and dangers posed by inadequate ventilation in terms of pollutant exposure and consequent health impacts.
- The need for tailored ventilation strategies that account for the specific requirements of vulnerable populations, particular pollutants, and unique indoor environments.
- How various forms of ventilation can be optimised and implemented effectively in different settings.
