The EDIAQI Indoor Air Quality Conference 2026

Description

Europeans spend almost 90% of their lives indoors, yet Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) continues to receive far less attention than outdoor air pollution despite its profound impact on health, wellbeing and productivity. Growing evidence links poor IAQ to respiratory and cardiovascular disease, reduced cognitive performance and poorer quality of life, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, older people and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Over the past four years, the Horizon Europe-funded EDIAQI project has brought together 18 organisations from 11 countries to advance scientific understanding, develop innovative technologies and demonstrate practical solutions for healthier indoor environments. Through research, pilots and awareness campaigns, the project has delivered new evidence, digital tools, awareness and empowerment instruments as well as policy recommendations to support healthier buildings across Europe.

The Air Ahead – The EDIAQI Scientific Conference 2026 – marks the scientific culmination of this work. Building on the broader policy discussions advanced through the IDEAL Cluster Summit, the conference places EDIAQI's science, research results and technological innovation at its centre.

The conference will explore four central questions:

  • What has EDIAQI taught us about indoor air pollution and its health impacts?
  • What have its pilots and campaigns taught us about improving IAQ in practice?
  • How can sensors, data and AI transform IAQ monitoring and management?
  • What should Europe's next priorities be for IAQ research and innovation?
