IDEAL Cluster Summit – The Air We Share: Shaping Healthier Indoor Air Quality in Europe and Beyond
Description
The IDEAL Cluster Summit will take place on 9 June 2026 at the Residence Palace. This high-level European event will bring together policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and public authorities to advance the indoor air quality agenda across Europe.
At a time when Europeans spend the vast majority of their lives indoors, the Summit will focus on translating cutting-edge scientific evidence into concrete policy action. Building on the work of seven Horizon Europe projects and over €50 million in research and innovation investment, the event will serve as a key platform to present findings directly to the European Commission and ensure that results are effectively leveraged in future policy development.
Key topics covered include:
- Scientific evidence on indoor air quality and health impacts
- Exposure in vulnerable environments such as schools and care homes
- Socio-economic implications of poor indoor air quality
- Innovations in monitoring, sensors and smart ventilation systems
- Building renovation and sustainable indoor environments
- Policy frameworks, standards and regulatory gaps
- A shared European roadmap towards clean indoor air
- Opportunities for industry, innovation and competitiveness
In addition, the Summit will feature a dedicated session on translating research into policy impact, highlighting how results from the IDEAL Cluster can support Europe’s Zero Pollution ambition. The session will bring together experts from across policy, academia and industry to explore how scientific knowledge can be effectively embedded into decision-making processes at EU level.
Hosted by the Lisbon Council and the EDIAQI project, the event reflects a strong commitment to bridging research, policy and market innovation — ensuring that indoor air quality is recognised not only as a public health priority, but also as a key driver for sustainable and competitive growth in Europe.
