Scientific Partnership on Researching Microplastics
Two Horizon projects, IMPTOX and EDIAQI, announce a scientific partnership on researching microplastics in indoor environments.
IMPTOX focuses on the toxicity of micro- and nano plastic particles (MNPs) and the effects on the risk of allergic diseases. EDIAQI focuses on monitoring indoor air and the detrimental effects of indoor air pollution on asthma and allergies. Both projects are financed under the Horizon Europe framework programme and have agreed to collaborate on two main topics:
- The standardization of microplastics characterization methods and sampling
- Understanding biological and chemical pollution associated with microplastics indoors
The two projects will form a working group with chemical and medical scientists from both projects. IMPTOX and EDIAQI also share a partner, Children's Hospital Srebrnjak, which is home to both cohorts. This will increase understanding on how the pollutants and their synergistic effects might influence children's health.
