Workbook for Children (Ages 5–12) – Discovering Indoor Air Quality
Learning about indoor air through play, curiosity, and everyday actions
This child-friendly workbook, developed within EDIAQI, is designed specifically for children aged 5 to 12. Using simple language, colourful activities, and playful challenges, it introduces young learners to the idea that the air around them, especially indoors, matters for their health and wellbeing.
The workbook invites children to explore indoor air pollution step by step, helping them recognise pollutants in a way that is engaging, age-appropriate, and easy to understand. Above all, it empowers them to realise that they can make a difference in keeping indoor spaces healthy.
What children will discover
Through guided explanations and activities, children learn about:
- air quality and why clean indoor air is important
- common indoor pollutants, including carbon dioxide (CO₂), ozone, particulate matter (PM), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
- where these pollutants come from, both indoors and outdoors
- how indoor air affects health and the environment
Learning through play
The workbook is structured around interactive and creative activities, such as:
- identifying outdoor sources of pollution
- exploring CO₂ concentration in everyday spaces
- navigating mazes and word searches
- understanding the importance of surface cleaning
- recognising sources of VOCs
- creating a poster to share good indoor air quality practices
These activities encourage observation, creativity, and discussion, making indoor air quality a topic children can relate to in their daily lives.
